    Plaquenil and high blood sugar

Hydroxychloroquine is a quinoline medicine used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

So while Plaquenil may lower blood sugar it’s not in a controlled way and considered a negative side effect, even if you have high blood sugar readings in the first place. You need to particularly alert if you are adding plaquenil to anti-diabetic medications as your blood sugar level could bottom out dangerously. Sorry I probably didn't explain my thinking very well. After I've eaten something with a high sugar content like a bar of chocolate it won't be straight away that I get this feeling but a time after. from my understanding the surge in sugar is combated by a release of insulin by the body but when this has occurred the insulin levels remain higher for a time and cause the low blood sugar. Side effects of corticosteroids can include mood swings, weight gain, high blood sugar, increased blood pressure, weakened bones and cataracts. Antimalarial drugs. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil can treat mild mixed connective tissue disease and might prevent flare-ups. Calcium channel blockers.

Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

Plaquenil and drinking - Sjogren's World I also take Methotrexate, along with Plaquenil plus many others and I don't drink any alcohol. Then again, this is an individual decision. I would run it by my doctor and see if they thought it was ok. You then could either drink a little wine, or abstain. I have read where a glass of wine OCCASIONALLY wouldn't hurt.
